I was planning to design a "jig", make a drawing and order it from some workshop that can weld stainless steel. After some investigation I came up with another idea, as I found a supplier of massive marine grade aluminium profiles. http://www.maskindelen.se So I ordered some profiles (three different types, 4 kilos in total) and using hand saw, metal file and power drill I managed to come up with this. I like the finish of the materials. Bolts are A4 stainless quality and the aluminium is 5, 6 and 8 mm thick.
Booked a lorry with crane, that made it easy to get the engine out wile having the boat on land. I originally planned to do it in the water using the harbour's mast crane, but I chickened out, as I noticed that the saildrive might pop out as it would loose two of three supports... Below you see how I use wooden wedges to support the sail drive. So, now I know what the coupling looks like :)
A splined shaft. As I thought this coupling would be a standard item, I sold off the diesel (with the clutch-pad fitting the spline) on the internet within an hour (!) Took me a few weeks to find a solution for coupling the electric motor shaft to this splined shaft. Now I can get proper measurements so I can design a new motor fitting/jig to support the saildrive and hold the electric motor. |
